Nestled in a valley of rolling hills and fertile soil, the City of Lowden has a population of 804 people and is located in Cedar County, Springfield Township. This area was once a tall, blue-stemmed prairie, inhabited by Native Americans and prairie animals.

The railroad reached Lowden, transforming it into a trade hub and connecting Clinton and Cedar Rapids.
1869Town Incorporated

1914Lincoln Highway Routed Through Lowden
The first transcontinental highway passed through town, increasing trade and travel services like food, lodging, and gas.
1923Herbert Hoover Highway Designated
Lowden became part of the Herbert Hoover Highway, honoring the president’s famine relief work and strengthening its role in Iowa’s transportation corridor.
1950Passenger Railroad Service Ends
