Minutes: Regular City Council Meeting

Discussions

  • Kasey Sander was present to discuss the water at the building he purchased located at 606 4th Street. He would like to get water back in the building.
  • Gene Hamdorf brought to discussion the addition of more cement needing down at the splash pad. He is wanting to get cement from the splash pad out to where the tables and benches are located. The council told Gene to go out and get some bids and to bring them back to the next meeting.
  • Gene Hamdorf brought up the pipe down at the pump house is corroding and needing to be replaced before it's too late. Gene is going to get some bids together before the next meeting.
  • Discussion and possible action for the water main from Washington to McKinley. Dan Hamdorf with JJJ Enterprises is going to look at the project and get a bid together.
  • There was discussion about a copy of the town building keys being kept at the city hall in the lockbox.
  • Cody Poppe brought up that he has had residents reach out to him about an update on the water and wondering what we can do to keep residents more up-to-date.
  • Mayor Lange asked if anyone had any questions about the cash report, function report, utility billing report, and other reports that the City Clerk provided to the council in their packets for tonight's meeting.

  • Building Permit - Josh Hamdorf turned in an application for a portable shed to be located at his rental property.

  • Motion was set to contribute funds from the city's LOST account to the concession stand at the park. Mark Dohmen was here from the school to discuss the changes made to the project and give the council new blueprints. Mr. Dohmen mentioned wanting to break ground as soon as possible. Motioned to approve.

  • There was discussion and a motion to seek a part-time police officer. An ad will be put together and sent out for a part-time officer with an hourly wage of $35.00-$40.00 along with the applicant needing to be certified. Motioned to approve and move forward.

  • There was discussion about the change in the public hearing on the budget meeting date that was previously set for April 14th, 2025. The budget meeting needs to be at least 11 days after the property tax levy meeting so this previously discussed date will not work. The new public hearing on the budget meeting will be April 21st, 2025 at 5:30pm at city hall. Motioned to approve.

  • To approve Resolution #2025-07- Assigning transfer of funds for the library.

Reports

  • Public Works Director Steinke reported on the flushing of the hydrants next week if the weather stays at a good temperature. Steinke informed the council about the next steps and how the water tests are looking currently. Steinke mentioned that Robby had reached out to him again about the solar panels and was wondering if the town had looked any further into the project or what they thought about it. There was discussion about putting together a 28E agreement for the wrench that the town is going in on with other surrounding towns.
  • Mayor Lange reported 12 rescue calls and 3 fire calls.
  • Librarian Ann Harms was present to give the council the library report to review. Harms made mention that the new assistant they hired last month is doing a great job. Harms mentioned they did a "Breakfast and Books" event for the new The Pilcrow Foundation grant books in which they received 103 books totaling $1,694.69 for elementary, early readers, and young children.
